SPIRITS
NOTES:

Now don’t go outdoors, on those bleak, lonely moors:
DD G A A# A G F G G F D
There are spirits on Cross Fell tonight.
 D D G A A# A G F G
I’ve seen them up there, what a fright, what a scare,
 DD G A A# C A# C D D C A#
As I stroll in the dead of the night.
D D G A A# A G F G
As I walk way on high, I see shapes in the sky,
D D G A A# C A# C D D C A#
I see figures on top of the fell.
D D G A A# A G F G
Dark forces are here; they bring doom, they bring fear.
DD G A A# A G F G G F D
This moor is as evil as hell.

As they lure in their prey, I turn, pull away:
I try to run back down below.
But deep holes in the ground open up all around.
Now where can I run? I don’t know.
Then my heroine appears and she says, as she nears,
“Do not worry, my man, take my hand.
“Now hurry, make hast, we have no time to waste.
“Let’s away from this dark, barren land.”

We race down the fell like a bat out of Hell:
The ghouls follow close on our tail.
But we give them the slip, now we’re out of their grip;
Then they howl and they mournfully wail.
We arrive at my gate; I’ve escaped my grim fate.
I kiss my brave heroine goodbye.
“Stay safe now, my man, I have done all I can,”
Says she, then returns to the sky.
